What is a gingivectomy?

A gingivectomy is a surgical treatment that removes excess gum tissue in your mouth. During a gingivectomy, we will reshape your gum tissue for a natural, healthy-looking smile. The goal of a gingivectomy is to re-establish healthy gum contours. Dr. Monica A. Flynn incorporates both traditional and laser assisted techniques for this procedure.

Many times patients in full orthodontic treatment find their gums get swollen and overgrown. This condition is known as gingival hyperplasia. In cases such as these the orthodontist will refer these patients to Dr. Monica A. Flynn to have a gingivectomy to aid in the orthodontic process.

Gingival hyperplasia can also happen in patients taking certain medications for blood pressure and some other conditions.

Many surgical procedures require a few short healing check visits so Dr. Monica A. Flynn can monitor the patients healing. There is never a charge for these healing visits.

If you are experiencing symptoms of gingival hyperplasia, we encourage you to call our office today and schedule an appointment with Dr. Monica A. Flynn. We are always happy to answer any questions you may have!
